Ioannis' Biography
Ioannis Giannopoulos was born in Athens in 1984.

Piano education

Ioannis started his piano education at 7.

 

 

 

 

In 1993 he continued piano study at the Conservatory of Athens. Later on he joined Dora Bakopoulou’s class.

In his final year at the Conservatory, he was awarded a piano diploma with grade Excellent unanimously and A’ Prize unanimously.

Since September 2006, he has continued the post-graduate diploma at the

the Space Olympics (2000) were held.

e participated in master classes including those with J.C.Penetieu, D.Bashkirov, F.Glida, B.Ringeissen, D.Dimov, C.M.Mehner, and also an open class

Royal Academy ofmusic, London studying with Ian Fountain.

He has received a scholarship from the A.Onassis Foundation for supporting his study abroad.

Piano performances

In February 2008, he participated a master class with Bernard D’Ascoli where he performed the 2nd Liszt Concerto. In November 2007, he was awarded a ''very highly recommended’’ prize in the Sterndale Bennett competition, held at the Academy.

He has given concerts in London both as a soloist and chamber musician.

He has attended various musical festivals, and participated in series of concerts such as the Athens College Music Concert , Music Festival-Tribute to W.A.Mozart, Greek Composers’ Concerts.

He has also performed with success in the theatre of Korolov (Moscow) where


with Ivo Pogorelich.

In spring 2009 he will perform the K.501 Mozart piano concerto with the State Orchestra of Athens in Greece.

Other music study and performances

At the age of 13 Ioannis attended a summer school at Colgate University in New York, where he appeared both as a pianist and as a harmonica player. He was then proposed to teach harmonica part-time.

A year later he participated in the National Student Music Competition where he won the first prize in the first round (Attika region), and the second prize in the National region.

He has done several recordings for the National theatre and the Public theatre of Northern Greece, composed by T. Karakatsanis, G. Kouroupos.

He was once starred in Disney’s “Lion King” playing the role of young Siba of its Greek version.
